Buccaneers Rookie Breaks Tradition With Bold Jersey Number Choice

Since players may come and go, but their uniform stays the same, when adding new players it always presents an opportunity for discussion about which number jersey they should wear. The 2022 Buccaneers have several rookies that could prove game changers on offense and defense - among them, an ex-Vikings defensive end who may become one. Luke Goedeke (67) No matter their position or draft round, every new Buccaneers rookie makes an impressionful statement through their choice of jersey number. Though hindered by foot issues this preseason, former Central Michigan star Josh Buono has excelled both in pass protection and run game work - impressing in both pass protection and run game work with strong center of gravity, balance, loose hips, reliable latch, leg drive and relentless effort to stay attached to blocks with unyielding effort. Goedeke may present difficulties during pass plays, but his short arms have proven their value by getting hands on defenders and maintaining position. He should compete for starting job at left guard against veteran Jamel Dean; Goedeke's injury may cause him to miss this weekend's matchup against Indianapolis; in his place would come Nick Leverett and should he return quickly, could possibly see action again against Cleveland later this season. Logan Hall (90) The Buccaneers 2022 draft class earned high grades on their initial NFL exam, and are making themselves known to teammates during preseason training. One way they do this is through jersey numbers; rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall's decision has caused much discussion. Hall was chosen by the Bucs with an eye towards honoring past great defensive linemen such as Ndamukong Suh who wore that number during his time with them and former Tampa Bay star Jason Pierre-Paul who also donned it during their careers. Hall has stood out during his time with the Bucs during Organized Team Activities and appears poised to fill an important need on defense for them. Hailing from Houston as a second-round pick, this long, powerful player can move off the ball quickly and create mismatches against opposing offensive lines quickly. Hall is projected to start the season as right defensive end for the Bucs and will wear number 90 in their honor this season. Cade Otton may have chosen this number with the intention of ushering in a new era of talent at this position with Hall's selection. Rachaad White (29) At the Buccaneers, jersey numbers have always played a pivotal role. While players come and go, fans remain loyal to their uniform, so draft pick selections always offer something exciting to observe. Rachaad White made his intentions known on social media Friday by choosing not to select any number in the 2022 third-round draft, instead selecting No. 1. His decision likely means that White will become Tampa Bay's starting running back; last season he overshadowed Playoff Lenny as Tampa Bay's starting back and hopes to provide long-term stability in Tampa Bay's run game. White was selected 91st overall out of Arizona State and donned No. 29 during college career. Since that number is currently held by kicker Ryan Succop, White needed to find an alternate number in No. 3. Although not ideal, he hopes his decision to wear No. 3 makes an impressionful statement about who he is this season - we spoke with him about this during Tuesday's Pewter Report podcast and here is the interview we conducted! Zyon McCollum (27) Zyon McCollum is an NFL cornerback who shows great potential, which is why the Bucs selected him in the fifth round last year to add depth to their secondary. A physical corner with exceptional anticipation skills who's hard to beat deep, McCollum also shines when used for zone coverage or special teams duties. He's made an impactful special teams contribution during his rookie campaign and seen limited action at cornerback. At 23, the 23-year-old will need some time to adjust to NFL play; but has the tools necessary to become an impact starter within Tampa Bay's secondary in time. Tampa Bay's second-year cornerback could take a huge leap forward if he can improve his play in 2023 and showcase more regularly his athleticism. Such progress would create an even stronger defensive unit for Tampa Bay. McCollum should be ready for Sunday's game against the Packers after participating in full practices throughout this week. He will play an integral part of Ronde Barber and Dee Delaney's nickel cornerback package as part of Ronde Otton's selection process; Cade Otton chose 27 in honor of Galveston, Texas where McCollum hails from, as well as paying tribute to Kobe Bryant (who wore number 24 in his NBA career). Cade Otton selected jersey number 27 because it best represented his personality and style of play while paying tribute to Kobe Bryant who also wore number 24 in his NBA career - something Cade Otton thought was suitable when choosing his number 24 NBA career which ended. Ko Kieft (41) Ko Kieft has been an impressive surprise for the Buccaneers this season as their 6th-round draft pick logged just 16 snaps from scrimmage but made his presence felt by making one catch against Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Kieft typically serves as a blocker but may play a larger role next season should both Cameron Brate and Kyle Rudolph leave. Kieft amazed scouts during preseason workouts with his physicality and agility, earning a 4.98-second 40-yard dash time at Minnesota's Pro Day - sixth among tight ends - that placed him sixth overall among tight ends. Additionally, he excelled as an outstanding three-cone drill performer. Even with limited playing time, Iowa Hawkeye turned Tampa Bay tight end is making an impactful contribution on special teams. His run game blocking skills are valuable and he has even returned a kickoff for seven yards! Kieft may find it hard to believe, but TMZ reported on Sunday that he is dating actress Margot Robbie. Kieft wears 41 as a tight end, which may seem strange. Still, this rookie tight end is doing his best for his team and making waves off of the field with his social media presence. Drafted by the Buccaneers with hopes that he would usher in an era of incredible production at tight end position he deserves a grade of B for now. Andre Anthony (46) Anthony will bring experience from Louisiana State to a linebacker room that already features veterans Lavonte David, Cyril Grayson, and K.J. Britt. Anthony was recruited as a free agent out of college where he played outside linebacker, appearing in 35 games while recording 55 tackles, 11 TFL's, and 10.5 Sacks for total of 110 tackles in total.
