The Bucks Begin Playoffs Against the Miami Heat on Saturday On Saturday, the Milwaukee Bucks will begin their first-round NBA playoff series against Miami Heat, a rematch from last year's Eastern Conference semifinals series that Miami won in five games. Milwaukee Bucks made some big moves during their offseason, such as adding star point guard Jrue Holiday. This could bode well for them making an extended postseason run this time around. 1. Giannis Antetokounmpo Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee has established himself as one of the premier players in NBA. He was honored as both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year within recent years and remains a strong candidate for this year's award. He is commonly known as the "Greek Freak" due to his uncanny ability to get to the rim quickly and his ball handling skills, and currently leads his franchise in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Born in Greece, he first started playing basketball as a youth with Filathlitikos youth team when he was still young. Over time he advanced his game by switching over to senior team. The Bucks selected him in the 2013 NBA Draft and since then, he has rapidly established himself as one of the premier big men in today's game. Twice awarded with NBA MVP honors, he has led them to record-setting seasons both times out. He has received many prestigious honors during his career, such as All-NBA First team selection and All-Star MVP status at NBA All-Star games. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Giannis for short) is one of the world's best known Greek basketball players, currently playing for Milwaukee Bucks and receiving widespread accolades worldwide. He boasts an athletic build and one of the fastest players in the league, enabling him to move effortlessly on court. He strikes a good balance between size and strength as well as versatility when it comes to shooting. His skills are unrivaled and he stands a chance to win multiple awards in the future. As the face of the Bucks, Milwaukeeans take great pride in having him represent them as a star player. Giannis enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, travelling, and experiencing new places. Antetokounmpo's performance against the Boston Celtics in Game 3 was nothing short of extraordinary. He dominated in the paint while producing some memorable highlight reel shots - like picking Al Horford's pockets near halfcourt or leaping high into the air to grab Eric Bledsoe's two-handed alley-oop pass and more. 2. Khris Middleton Khris Middleton was one of the key performers for the Milwaukee Bucks during their opening playoff game against Miami Heat, scoring 27 points and hitting an epic three-point shot with half a second left in overtime to give his team a 1-0 series advantage. Milwaukee forward Eric Bledsoe brings much to this year's playoffs and will be instrumental in helping the Bucks advance past the next round against Miami Heat. An excellent shot-blocker and capable shooter, Bledsoe provides the Bucks with the necessary defensive versatility they need in order to stop their offensive flow and stop Miami Heat's offensive flow. His performance in Game 1 demonstrated he is more than just a role player; he made an immediate difference defensively by pressuring Goran Dragic into shooting only 5 of 14 attempts from the field. Middleton also provided his team with shots. He scored 11 in the first quarter and eight more in the second, including two three-pointers; as well as 16 total points in total. The Bucks have struggled in the first two games of this series to find an offensive groove, which is understandable given they are without Jrue Holiday (sprained right ankle) and Grayson Allen (also sprained right ankle). Pat Connaughton or Joe Ingles may start in one or more subsequent games before this series comes to a conclusion. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Jordan Nwora make up a formidable collection of players on their team, but more is still required from their perimeter players. Grayson Allen and Pat Connaughton's three-point shooting has struggled in the past but could become more reliable. If the Bucks can recover from their embarrassing defeat in Brooklyn, they stand a good chance at coming back and winning this series. To do this, however, they will need a more talented group of players on Wednesday Night in Milwaukee. 3. Brook Lopez The Milwaukee Bucks began their playoff run with an emphatic victory against Miami Heat in Game 1 of their first-round series, storming out to an early 19-4 lead and never relented, connecting on 22 3-pointers (a franchise playoff record!). Milwaukee took an immediate commanding 2-0 series lead. Brook Lopez played an outstanding game for Milwaukee in this contest, scoring 23 points while providing top defense and blocking four shots from Miami Heat players - helping keep Milwaukee in control until its completion. Lopez has been one of the key pieces for the Bucks this season and his play both offensively and defensively will be critical to their success. He has scored 20 or more points in three of his last four games while blocking at least three shots each time out. His presence has kept the Bulls from attacking the rim, which could prove key in these playoffs. He averages the second-most paint points per game and has already made an enormous difference over two games. He's also keeping Chicago All-Star center Nikola Vucevic from contributing as much, who had 23 points in Game 1. If he can hold him to that number over this series, his strong defensive presence will undoubtedly assist the Bucks significantly. Lopez has excelled on the defensive end with his aggressive play on the glass this season, averaging 2.1 offensive boards per game - tied for fifth best in the NBA. Lopez enters each game with confidence that he has something to prove - an approach which has paid dividends as he leads the Bucks to an impressive 47-22 record and only 2.5 games shy of claiming first place in the Eastern Conference. With Brook Lopez back, the Bucks will receive a much-needed defensive boost heading into their series against Miami. After struggling against teams outside of the top 10, their defense should now be more formidable and should hold its own against Miami in this playoff run. 4. Jrue Holiday Holiday was a key figure in the Bucks' first playoff win against Miami Heat, scoring 20 points, making three steals, and dishing out two assists in their victory. He even came through when needed most, including overtime! Milwaukee traded away many young talents in order to acquire Holiday, but by doing so they gained more than just scoring from him. He is an effective two-way guard who can play on either side of the floor, offering steadying force on offense when Giannis Antetokounmpo or Khris Middleton struggle or acting as an excellent defensive ball handler. That combination was one of the major draws to trading for him during the offseason: they needed someone who could provide stability at point guard while providing scoring when Giannis or Middleton were struggling, and someone who could defend both sides of the floor efficiently to slow down Miami big men, such as Jimmy Butler. He has done just that in a dramatic fashion this season, averaging career-high average points per game while shooting career-best percentages from both field goal attempts and three-point attempts. Additionally, his contributions on defense have earned him two All-Defensive first team nods - an accomplishment worthy of applause indeed! All this accumulated to an impressive debut season with the Bucks, highlighted by winning gold with Team USA at the Olympics. His ability to score at high levels has been crucial for their success this year and in future playoff rounds as well. Holiday made two crucial hustle plays in Game 1, including retrieving an offensive rebound after Goran Dragic cut through for a layup and nailing the game-winning basket in overtime to give Milwaukee their first playoff victory and advance into round two. He proved himself well worth the trade that saw them acquire him.
